Give Five: Louisiana

The Osprey Initiative team was up bright and early for a Give Five project to tackle a litter hotspot in Ponchatoula Creek in Wadesboro, Louisiana. Give Five is Osprey’s commitment to giving back five percent of our gross revenues to cleanups for those interested in what we do and sites where we have Litter Gitters.

Osprey Initiative currently maintains a Litter Gitter site on Ponchatoula Creek. We installed the trash trap on February 15, 2020 and our partners for the project include The River Network, the Coca-Cola Foundation, and Pontchartrain Conservancy.

This litter hotspot was reported by a jet skier. Kim Landry Coates joined us for a few hours of cleanup. The result? We hauled off 15 bags of litter, five of which were recyclables, for a total of nearly 235 pounds of trash.

We can’t wait for our next Give Five – maybe in your area!

What We Offer

The patented Litter Gitter is a tactical in-stream litter collection device used to intercept floating litter from stormwater runoff. The Osprey team handles all aspects of installing and maintaining these “trash traps” and compiles data on the items caught in them, recycling as much of the litter as possible.
