Osprey adds three new Litter Gitter sites in Florida

Osprey Initiative is proud to announce new Litter Gitter sites to capture floating litter in waterways.

The Osprey team installed three new Litter Gitters in south Florida. These new trash traps can be found floating at Archie Creek, Clam Bayou, and 16th Avenue Canal.

Each of these sites are made possible through the EPA Trash Free Waters Grant and Tampa Bay Estuary Program. Project partners include Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful (Archie Creek), Keep Pinellas County Beautiful (Clam Bayou), and Keep Manatee County Beautiful (16th Avenue Canal).

The Litter Gitter is a patented, in-stream litter collection device used to intercept floating litter from stormwater runoff. The Osprey team handles all aspects of installing these “trash traps.” Each entity will maintain the traps and compile data on the items caught in them, recycling as much of the litter as possible.

The data collected will drive litter abatement plans for Osprey partners to stop litter at its source.
