The Litter Gitter Cleans Charlotte Waterways

CHARLOTTE, NC — Envision Charlotte partnered with Coca Cola Consolidated to launch “Project Litter Gitter” to help clean Charlotte waterways. They are going to analyze the garbage caught, identify where it’s coming from and try to stop the litter from clogging streams.

WCCB cameras were out there when they put one of the litter gitters in the water.

Amy Aussieker, the executive director of Envision Charlotte and the brainchild of the project, says this is just one of the initiatives to help get plastics back into production.

“When it doubt throw it out,” says Aussieker. “If you put something contaminated into your curbside recycling you and all your neighbors go to the landfill.”

The county and city are also collaborating in the effort.
