Like working outside? Passionate about your local waterways and natural places? Want to do more to protect our natural places? Don’t mind getting dirty?
April 20, 2022 – Osprey Initiative is hiring part-time field technicians to pick up litter on land and around the water in the Decatur, Alabama area. This effort is part of a larger project to investigate methods to remove and reduce trash in our waterways.
Osprey Initiative is a new company bringing implementable solutions to restore and protect our natural environment. For more information about us, feel free to view Our Mission and Litter Gitter pages to learn more about our story, team, and the work we do.
Field technicians will be involved in the removal of litter and debris from other areas in support of other restoration work in the watershed.
- Dependable and have a sense of responsibility – must be a self-starter.
- Attention to detail with strong communication skills.
- Comfortable working extended hours in an outdoor setting.
- Comfortable working around the water and in canoes / boats.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and feel comfortable carrying heavy items.
- Must be able to work in a team environment with an emphasis on safety.
Our goal is to have a team servicing, maintaining, and inspecting/repairing Osprey Initiative’s Litter Gitters on a weekly basis. You will also sort and document materials collected following a modified version of a US EPA data protocol. Recyclables and disposables will be separated and stored for subsequent disposal.
You may be asked to speak to civic and educational groups and participate in awareness and litter removal programs. Osprey Initiative will provide appropriate orientation, safety & job training, and gear prior to start of work.
Our worksites are drug and alcohol free. It is preferable for at least one hire to have a truck that could be used to transport the team and equipment between the work sites and haul collected material to disposal / storage site.
We expect to hire with work beginning immediately.
